Who we are
Students for Concealed Carry Foundation is a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization. Our primary goal is to protect the Second Amendment rights of college students, particularly, those who are allowed to carry concealed weapons on college campuses through research, education, and litigation efforts.
Our Board of Directors
Al is the Vice President for Students for Concealed Carry Foundation. He started with SCC in 2007 as a Campus Leader at the University of Idaho and State Director for Idaho. Al has served on SCC’s Board of Directors since February 2008, first as the Rocky Mountain Regional Director, and from September 2010 to present as Legal Liaison. He is an attorney in private practice in Moscow, Idaho and is a Utah Certified Concealed Firearms Instructor, NRA Certified Instructor, and Range Safety Officer for a local range. Al is a competitive shooter, enjoys hunting and fishing in Idaho’s great outdoors, and collects classic cars.

Jason was a founding board member of Students for Concealed Carry Foundation. Jason has also volunteered with Students for Concealed Carry since 2008 and is currently serving on their Board of Directors as well. Jason has a degree in Recreation Management and Youth Leadership and works as a Recreation Therapist both at an adolescent inpatient mental health facility and an adult acute psych hospital. Jason is an NRA Certified and Utah BCI Certified instructor. When not working, Jason enjoys shooting, rock climbing, photography, and binge watching TV shows online.
Jason SilvaDirector at Large 
Jim Manley started the Students for Concealed Carry chapter at the University of Colorado in 2007. After graduating, he sued the University on behalf of SCC, ultimately overturning the school’s ban on concealed carry on campus. Jim is a senior attorney at the Goldwater Institute’s Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation. Before joining the Goldwater Institute, Jim served six years as a staff attorney at Mountain States Legal Foundation. Before attending law school, Jim was a professional ski instructor in Telluride, Colorado, and a Reagan Fellow at the Goldwater Institute.

Reid K Smith serves as the Director of Development for Students for Concealed Carry Foundation, and is a founding member. He began in the campus carry movement with our sister foundation, Students for Concealed Carry, in 2007. In March 2009, he became the Michigan State Director, assuming his position as Midwest Regional Director in May 2010, and Director of Development in December 2012. Reid is an Emergency Medicine physician in Downtown Detroit. His wide interests include wilderness medicine, the impact of firearms on public health, the outdoors, backpacking, history, and baseball.

Erik Soderstrom is a founding member of Students for Concealed Carry Foundation. He became involved with Students for Concealed Carry when he started a campus chapter at Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2008 and became a campus leader. After transferring schools, Erik was appointed State Director for South Carolina in the Fall of 2009. In April 2011, he also served as the East Regional Director. He now serves as Director of Technology for both organizations.
